About Agadir — From the Atlantic to the Sahara
Agadir was rebuilt as a modern city after the 1960 earthquake, and today it is known for its long sandy bay, its marina and its mild climate. On the hill above town, the ruins of the old kasbah, Agadir Oufella, look out over the ocean. Most visitors come for the beach, but inland lies a very different Morocco: the argan forests of the Souss, the saffron fields of Taliouine, and beyond them the Draa Valley and the Sahara.
Why start your tour in Agadir
If you’re spending a week on the coast, a desert trip is the perfect contrast. The route inland climbs through the Anti-Atlas past Taroudant’s ochre ramparts, the saffron fields of Taliouine and the carpet town of Tazenakht. It then reaches the palm oases of the Draa Valley and the dunes. Choose Zagora for a short trip, or go all the way to Merzouga for the tall dunes of Erg Chebbi.

What to see in Agadir
- Agadir Oufella: the hilltop kasbah ruins and viewpoint, reachable by cable car.
- The beach and marina: a long promenade along the bay.
- Souk El Had: a huge walled market for local produce and crafts.
Good to know
Agadir is a long way from the big dunes: Merzouga is a two-day drive, which is why our Agadir tours spend the first night in Ouarzazate, next to Ait Ben Haddou. Tours can bring you back to the coast or finish in Marrakech.
